The Shanling SM1.3R is a Hi-Fi network streamer with an in-house R2R DAC and a dedicated built-in headphone amplifier. Three functions in one chassis, and the R2R conversion is Shanling's own design rather than an off-the-shelf chip.

Ladder DACs appeal to listeners who find delta-sigma implementations a little sterile, and getting one inside a streamer is unusual — normally that means buying two boxes. With the headphone amp included, the SM1.3R can serve as a complete system: network in, headphones out, line out to an amplifier when you want speakers.
