The SMSL SU-X is the flagship of SMSL's SU line, running dual ES9039MSPRO converters — ESS's top current-generation part, and two of them — behind an XMOS XU-316 USB interface. PCM goes to 32bit/768kHz, DSD to DSD512, with MQA decoding and Bluetooth 5.1 on board.

This is a buy-once source component. The dual-flagship-chip layout gives each channel its own converter, and the remote plus wireless support means it functions equally well as a desk DAC and as the digital front end of a speaker system in another room. Feed it from a computer, a streamer, or the PL200T transport, and run it into a balanced headphone amp or power amp. If you've been upgrading DACs every year, the SU-X is where that usually stops.
